Description Anritsu has
introduced the MW9076D1, a
four-wavelength optical time domain
reflectometer (OTDR) with very high
wavelength accuracy, which can be used
for conventional OTDR applications and
chromatic dispersion measurements on
wavelength division multiplex (WDM)
transmission systems.
The new unit operates at wavelengths of
1310, 1450, 1550 and 1625nm ±3nm
(+/-0.5nm in chromatic dispersion
measurement mode). Dynamic range at
these wavelengths is 34, 33, 32 and
29.5dB. Dead zone for back-scattered
light is less than 6m. The MW9076D1
offers simple measurement of chromatic
dispersion from one end of an optical
fibre. The operator is given measured
figures for group delay, total
dispersion figure, zero dispersion
wavelength and dispersion slope for the
fibre being measured.
Among features of the unit are a
market-leading real-time sweep mode of
0.15s and a fully automatic mode in
which all complex settings such as
distance range and pulse width can be
automatically executed. Measurement
speed in this mode is significantly
increased. A series of operations, such
as measurement, wavelength switching,
data saving, optical channel switching
and next optical fibre measurement, can
be executed automatically under preset
measurement conditions. This mode is
particularly useful for measuring a
multi-core optical fibre.
